BeamDial Announces a Money Saving Accessory for Palm Handheld Computers
The New Telephone Accessory for the Palm Can Save Users Up to 70 Percent on Long Distance Telephone Calls
BeamDial (www.beamdial.com) announced the introduction of a time and money-saving wireless dialer accessory for Palm handheld computers. Users can save up to 70 percent on long-distance calling costs by using BeamDial to automatically dial long-distance and international telephone numbers stored in their Palm’s built-in address book using alternative long-distance services with prepaid telephone cards.
With BeamDial, users of Palm handheld computers simply choose a contact phone number from their Palm address book and select dial. BeamDial then automatically high-speed dials the call, routing it through the lowest cost long-distance calling service.
“The typical long-distance charge is 10 to 13 cents per minute, plus additional monthly service charges and taxes,” said Asher Avitan, BeamDial’s director of engineering. “BeamDial was designed for use with prepaid calling cards that typically only charge 3.5 cents per minute. So, depending upon how heavy long-distance and international telephone usage is, the cost savings realized by using BeamDial can pay for the unit in just a couple of months.”
Continued Avitan, “Prepaid calling cards are easily purchased. Many major retailers, such as Costco and WalMart, sell the cards, or they can also be purchased on the Internet from providers. Plus, BeamDial can automatically reload the prepaid cards when the allotted time has been used by charging to a credit card number.”
“The technology is user-friendly,” added Asher Avitan, “The battery powered BeamDial receives telephone numbers transmitted via the infrared port from the Palm handheld computer – it works remotely the same as a television remote control – and is used on standard telephone lines.”
To use BeamDial, simply plug the unit into a telephone line – or, if in a hotel, into the data port of the hotel telephone – and start placing calls. BeamDial does not need to be plugged into the Palm handheld computer as the connection is made via the infrared port.
Once the call is initiated, the user hears both the call being dialed and the ring tones through the built-in BeamDial speaker. When the user picks up the telephone handset, the BeamDial dialer will automatically drop off the telephone line, it’s that simple. A button on top of the BeamDial unit enables the user to hang-up if the user has made a mistake or wants to reset the unit.
The BeamDial dialer can be ordered online for $49.95, plus shipping and handling, at http://www.beamdial.com.
