I am having a lot of trouble hotsyncing my new Palm V with my IBM ThinkPad running Windows NT. I believe I have COM ports defined correctly, etc., but Palm will not connect. Any advise?

Dont listen to these dumbasses (Advertiser and HPC user, bah). Its probably not NT, rather your Thinkpad. They use a Com port for the MWave modem which is probably initialized. It may not be the same port as the Palm but the same IRQ. Disable the modem and see if that helps. Use a terminal program like Hyperterminal to connect to the Com port the Palm is on. If you get a bunch of junk in the window, you know its working. Additionally, OS 3.3 update allows IR syncing which works fine.

I've had my PalmV and Thinkpad 600 running NT since May and they work fine together. Hopefully, you've found the answer to this by now, but as others who haven't may find this, the answer is to augment your Palm Desktop software with Intellisync v3. I use Outlook 98 for my email, contacts, calendar, to-do, etc. and it all syncs great. Intellisync is from Puma Technology, 2550 N. 1st St., Suite 500, San Jose, CA 95131 www.pumatech.com

On my HPC CD-ROM, there were specific instructions for NT. It involved playing around with RAS, putting in IP numbers, and stuff like that. Look for a subdirectory on your CD-ROM which might contain this sort of information. Note: Even with their instructions, I was able to get the palm and PC to COMMUNICATE, but could not figure out a way to copy/move files from one to the other. Ie, the normal HPC syncing program wasn't working .. I eventually just used an old W95 machine to do it, and am copying everything over on floppy. Let me know if you get it working! Best of luck! -Scott
