Subject: probably not an IntelliSync problem

I don't have Yahoo's IntelliSync. I don't have anything from Yahoo. And I also sporadically have the same problem. The only cures I've found are irritating. Rename the .dat files until you find one that takes you back to where you came from. Or synch with the device having overwrite control. Either will miss out on changes made since your last successful synch. A real pain, and it's disappointing that Handspring won't help.

Subject: fix below worked - Intellisync problems

This is the error I was getting:
Error: Failed to open contacts database. A New empty database was created and the original database file was renamed to ....
I used yahoo intellisync for my contacts, and I think this messed up my contacts file. The fix below seemed to clean things up.
I need the yahoo calandar feature, so I am setting intellisync to point to my outlook express contacts (which I do not care about), and using the palm desktop to manage my palm contacts. This seems to be an improvement, but the damage to my contacts file has already been done. Thank you very little yahoo and intellisync.

I'm not really sure about the quality of Yahoo's Intellisync product. It seems to be lacking the basic abilities of the original Intellisync product (by Starfish?) which was free for a while.
For example, if I delete a record from either Yahoo or my Palm Pilot, Intellisync attempts to re-add it from the other source. That makes it basically useless.
And yes, Yahoo doesn't actually support the product. I'm pretty happy with nearly all of Yahoo's services (well, except for BillPay, which is also buggy), but IS4Yahoo is just trash, IMO.

I am now having problems using IntelliSync 4 Yahoo (IS4Yahoo) to sync my SBC account with my Palm IIIxe using my Windows XP Home system. It was working fine before to sync my MS Outlook I hope but I am having Pilot Connector problems.
I think that IS4Yahoo messed up my PDA because I can hot-sync it with my Palm Desktop! NO support NOT even email support. I should never have used it!
Is there anyway I can salvage the situation?
Please help me ASAP! Thanks.

I wanted to ask if someone knows how to discover if a Palm IIIxe's database file or files is or are corrupt.
I can sometimes sync Intellisync 4 Yahoo from my Windows XP Pro system to my Palm IIIxe.
I then try to hot-sync it with my Windows XP Home system's Palm Desktop v. 4.1.17 after I uninstalled IntelliSync 4 Yahoo and changed the conduit to Handheld Overwrites Desktop.
I can never get my Palm IIIxe's data into my Windows XP Home's Palm Desktop v. 4.1.17. I just keep getting an error message saying that the database files can be opened and an empty one is replacing it. I have done this 40 sometimes.
I never should have used IntelliSync 4 Yahoo!!
Please help me!! Thanks.

Here's How I got rid of my problem:
Uninstalled Intellisync for Yahoo.
Restarted Computer.
Very Important:
On taskbar Hotsync Icon (Lower Right) or Hotsync tab in Palm Desktop Under Custom... set Date Book to "Desktop overwrites Handheld"
---Very crucial or you will lose all your info in the Palm Desktop.---
Sync it up and it should work
pass it on.

I have been using Palms for about 5 years and am quite satisified.
Currently have a Tungsten T and IBM R40 Thinkpad.
Intellisync for Yahoo has screwed my Palm desktop data just like for the others. I just wanted to sync my address book, but now have lost all the my other data from the desktop. Every time I sync with the Palm I get different errors.
Yahoo are not interested, because they say Intellisync is to blame. Intellisync want me to open a support ticket (no way).
Why is it called "Intelli" sync? How about Nosync? Or Suicidesync? Screwupyourpalmforeversync?

I too have the same problem as the note of 12/7/04 - whereby I (unfortunately) used Intellsync to link my Yahoo calendar and Tungsten W. Complete mess. Uninstalled Intellsync and got the problem that my desktop was not installed properly. Anyone have teh solution to the 12/7/04 post? BTW, I suggest NO ONE use Intellsync and Yahoo to sync - too many problems, no support.
